Rectal bleeding is a frequently encountered common presentation in primary care. This causes great concern to the patient and the causes can range from diseases like haemorrhoids, fissures, proctitis, diverticular disease to colorectal cancer. It has been shown that rectal bleeding affects up to 15 % of the general population.
